December 2013

Each year we celebrate the international Inner Wheel Day - which actually falls on 10th January - by organising a buffet at the Happivale Centre.

The 10th January is celebrated as Inner Wheel Day because it marks the date on which the first club in Manchester adopted the name Inner Wheel.  The buffet that we organise at Happivale is not a fundraising event - rather it is arranged to celebrate the aims of Inner Wheel - namely, service and friendship.

October 2013

On 29th October three members from the Long Eaton club attended the annual District 22 Overseas Rally.  It was held at the Derbyshire Hotel at South Normanton and is organised to celebrate the work that the District does to raise funds for overseas charities.

This year June Chaplin, Thirza Lalloo and Beryl Buckley attended on behalf of Long Eaton Inner Wheel.  The main speaker was Dr Cheryle Berry who spoke about the Hope Community village in India.

On 12th October we also had a joint wine tasting event with the Long Eaton Rotary Club.  Normally we provide the food for the event then share the proceeds taken on the day between the Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs.

August 2013

Once again, following the changeover of officers, we presented money from our charity account to a range of local organisations of our choice.  This year we mainly supported Macmillan Cancer Care

As well as providing a one-off donation we had also encouraged club members and their families to use the Macmillan, on-line, charity cards throughout the year - thus increasing the amounts going to their worthy cause.

The Italian Restaurant in the garden centre also did good business by quite a few of our group.

On Monday 3rd June our meeting was held at the Holiday Inn.  This was the A.G.M for the year.  Our speaker at this meeting was Wendy Watson who runs the National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline.

She is also familiar to most people from her appearances on T.V. and is particularly known to the Club as she and her sister, Diane, both lived in Breaston and went to school in Long Eaton.

January 2013

On Friday the 4th January we celebrated International Inner Wheel Day in our usual way.  We provide a buffet for the local Happivale Club. There are usually around 40 Happivale Members attending, with varied ages.

They have a disco, dance, eat and look forward each year to seeing us. We also find it a very happy evening. Each Member of our Club contributes to provide the food, and fifteen of our Members were there on the evening to help.
