NEWS IN 2017
September 2017

On the 14th September  Ann Austin arranged a Club visit
to the Nottingham B.B.C. Studios and nine of our members attended.

As you can see from the photo the first person on the left of the picture  is Christine Shelbourne and I think we are going to give her the title of official Inner Wheel Photographer. She took 21 excellent pictures making it  difficult to choose which to use on the Web

I have tactfully left out the one of them scoffing wine in some Bar  but I know  everyone enjoyed the visit and the ride on the Tram from Bardills pickup place into Nottingham.

On the 3rd July the Change Over Meeting was held at the home of Margaret McMorran. The Officers of our Club stayed the same except for Claudia Jeffery who is now the Vice President. Shown on the picture left Cheryl Treasurer, Marion Secretary, Alison our lovely President who agreed to follow on for a second year as President.I seemed to have missed Claudia on the shot. Mavis Govier and Margaret Parkin two Members at the end

On the 13th March we celebrated our 70th Charter Anniversay  at the Erewash Valley Golf Club

Seated opposite our President Alison together with Dr. John Bowley President of the Rotary Club of Long Eaton.

President Alison and District Chairman Di Hylton Cutting the Charter Cake.

After Lunch and Greetings from District Chairman Di. and Rotary President Dr. John we had the Guest Speaker for the afternoon.

This was Janet Staines speaking on "Ration Book Fashion".during the last war.  She aslo had clothes to show after 'Make Do and Mend'   This brought back many memories to a number of us listening and being taken back to the past.

Just a view of a few of our visitors on the day.

February 2017

On the 20th February it was the Shoe Box day at the home of Marion Atkins, our club secretary.

Club members had previoysly collected a range of items - coloured pencils, hats, scarves, playing cards, etc - and we then filled 24 shoe boxes so that they could be sent by Rotary to children in Romania.

It is part of the Rotary Shoe Box scheme which sends different types of boxes to a variety of chosen countries.  Information about the scheme can be found at the following link - along with pictures of the boxes being received Shoe Boxes   (opens in a separate window)
